This is the best one I have seen yet, John. The colors are highly accentuated, but not unreal looking. Probably because Manhattan is dreary to begin with.

  2. IheartDoug says:

    Surreal.

I suppose it could be real but it appears more like an architect’s concept for a proposal.

It;s a gigantic commercial property in the midst of the tenements. Does not make sense. I lived in lower Manhattan for a year but left 8 years ago and can not figure out exactly where this is.

    Do you have an address?

    In the morning.

  3. msbpodcast says:

    You need geo-location and direction.

I can’t quite place this. (I’m ashamed to say that I no longer look up when I walk around in lower Manhattan. I have no idea where the black building is.)

The colors are quite saturated but this could be Tribeca, looking up to mid-town.

  4. Matty says:

    Lower East Side?

  5. nicktherat says:

I can sorta see the giant mormon church in the background. so it probably is lower west side. let me know if you ever come back! id love to shake your hand!

  6. ROB WEST says:

    I’m pretty sure this is 180 Orchard Hotel/Condo, it’s a new building.

  7. jobs says:

It’s probably just me but the novelty of over saturated HDR type images wears off after maybe 3.

  8. admfubar says:

well here is a novelty the first color photos taken ever
and they are of the 1906 quake in San Fran..

  9. WmDE says:

    Viewpoint is Orchard and Stanton?

  10. Dame Tanya says:

    Gorgeous!

Definitely looks like it’s taken from LES looking northwest, I can just see one of the Penn Plaza buildings (on W. 34th) peeking out behind the black building.

  11. WmDE says:

Changed my mind. Taken from the Hotel on Rivington.

  12. hhopper says:

Reminds me of the monolith from ‘2001 A Space Odyssey.’

  13. These pics self-saturate when the blacks are boosted from the RAW control panel. I’m really not boosting the saturation by hand. I could turn it down, but would like to stay on this tactic for a few more shots from the RAW archives.

  14. ROB WEST says:

This is the “Thompson” Lower East Side (Hotel)
190 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002

  15. deowll says:

    I do like the picture.

I just realized the greater contrast could have a very practical use in that it allows the human brain to better pick out the details.
