X3 with John C. Dvorak
Guests: Andrew Eisner, Retrevo.com and Joseph Engo, Mevio

  1. bobbo, the evangelical anti-theist says:

I don’t use any social media including my land line phone, and hardly even the mail. “But” seems rather silly to argue against a personal web page that allows the owner to select what level of access the rest of the world has to it. Isn’t that really the “standard” model of any website? The owner allows access to different parts of it and denies access to other parts?

What exactly is wrong with this?

JCD’s option of all IN or all OUT is devoid of personal freedom and discretion and discernment. No nuance, very American.

  2. msbpodcast says:

If you put stuff unencrypted on the web, you have no right to expect it to remain private.

I only put stuff up there that I want everybody to see.

The rest of the stuff I encrypt and may use snail-mail to get it from A to B.

  3. msbpodcast says:

Mr. Dvorack, I’m calling BS on #3.

If you Google the exact text “That’s really a fantastic post ! added to my favorite blogs list.. I have been reading your blog last couple of weeks and enjoy every bit. Thanks.” you’ll see that its a done by a robot.

That said, Social or not, all of these sites have agenda.

Then again, we’re all trying to promote something, aren’t we? 🙂

[Yeah, it was spam that sneaked through. – ed.]

  4. tomdennis says:

I am retired and I create web sites. I have joined FaceBook to see my long lost cousins in photos I have never seen before who live in California or Florida. I use most browsers and surf the web.
I do not worry about any privacy because I have nothing to lose(my wife spent it all long ago). Big brother keeps track of me because of who I was in the 1960. If someone steals my profile then they soon are visited by the feds wanting to know, “Why they knew me?”.
I live in Kentucky and I am to poor to travel anywhere by plane or auto.

  5. Binkey says:

Good Lord Dvorak needs a haircut! He’s looking like a seedy homeless boat person with the long old man hair…

    =O/

  6. EnemyOfTheState says:

I guess I still don’t “get it”. I was an early unix shell account user and since then, I have tried to guard my privacy. There are no photos of me partying on the internet. There are no photos of our wedding there either. Those that matter attended the wedding and do not need “posted” photos to adjust their recall. And I really have little interest in those I attended high school with, 40 FN years ago.

  7. Personality says:

Can’t go out and play baseball… It’s been below 30 for 5 months!

  8. chuck says:

Did that guy (Joseph Engo?) actually say that he liked Facebook because it has privacy?

What he serious? Or making a joke?
Facebook has privacy right up until the point where they make yet another “adjustment” to the privacy settings and then you find out that all your personal information is public because you didn’t check a box that says “do not make my personal information public — and this time I really mean it!”

And, of course, Facebook (the company) has access to everyone’s data and they aren’t shy about sharing that with anyone who is willing to pay.

  9. whatsit says:

    #4
    CONFIRMED
    Good find.

  10. High Karate says:

WOW. I don’t think there is another reason to watch X3 ever again. It is almost like this is a bad SNL skit. Is this a comedy skit? The amount of traffic to that site and the argument is relegated to lazy people and people with too much time on their hands? I feel my time could of best been spent standing in a circle puking at a group of strangers puking on me.

  11. Brian says:

Love X3! Short to the point and without more than one regular. Awesome Sauce!

  12. E@$+ C0@$+ CR@CK P0+ says:

I’m sick of the winey nerd.

  13. The Dude says:

Dvorak could have retired from public life with dignity, but no.Now we get to laugh on his ride downhill!
