MIAMI — A South Florida woman is outraged after she says her underage daughter was able to buy a sex toy in the Dolphin Mall, no questions asked. The mother, who asked not to be identified, says all parents need to know what Spencer Gifts has on display and is apparently selling to minors.

“I was shocked my daughter was able to buy something like this and more shocked at what I saw when I walked into the store,” she said. “I couldn’t believe what they are selling.” The outside of the Spencer Gifts store at the Dolphin Mall looks kid- and family-friendly. In the window, there is an advertisement for hats with Sesame Street characters and Sponge Bob Square Pants on them.

But inside the store, Local 10 discovered books with graphic, full-color pictures of a man and woman having intercourse, and a Local 10 hidden camera spotted several teens browsing in that part of the store. There are remote-controlled vibrating fantasy panties, love dolls and sex toys — none of which is behind a curtain or in a restricted area. Local 10 showed video taken in the store to a group of parents who often send their kids to the mall, “It’s appalling to me. It’s a very appealing store on the outside, especially to kids,” said Rhonda Tescher, a mother of three. All the parents Local 10 talked to said they had no idea Spencer Gifts sold these items.

“Totally inappropriate — totally inappropriate,” said parent Michael Stern. Could a minor actually buy this stuff? With his parents’ permission, Local 10 sent a 13-year-old boy with a hidden camera into Spencer Gifts in the Dolphin Mall. The 13-year-old was able to thumb through a book with graphic pictures and even buy it — no questions asked. The name of that book is “365 Sex Positions: A New Way Every Day For Steamy Erotic Year.”

This shocks and disgusts me…see the sordid video here!

All the “outraged” mothers in the clip look to be on drugs to me. Nothing colors the world better than Paxil widened eyes.

    Suburban zombies, all of ’em.

  2. theBadSteveO says:

    The quote:

“It’s a wakeup call for parents. It’s our job to be on top of what our kids are doing,” said parent Allyson Tomchin

Is hilarious. Talk about being an involved parent!

  3. Mr Fog says:

I think Spencer should be put out of business –

    – unless they improve the durability of the sex toys.

    Damn cheap chinese crap/

    She was shocked, was she?

    She is from Florida

    Our must fucked up state.

    Nuff said!!!

I imagined many of you have NOT even enter a Spencer’s store before. The store has many sexy products, many satirical products, many gooffy products and many strange products. They are one of the best stores to shop for Holloween costumes.

They do not sell sex toys. When you use the term sex toys you think of dildo’s and what not. This is not what they sell. They sell goofy, funny, dorky looking things that are just “sexy.” That’s it. Go check out the store for yourself, I can almost guarantee you won’t find such items as you would in a sex shop. You can spend half a day in the store just laughing your butt off at the goofy stuff they have there.

As for the book itself, the pictures were blurred so I can’t make a judgment call. Again, I’m quite sure the positions illustrated are not done by completely naked couples. That’s what “sexy” and funny about most of their products. They give you a hint and leaves you laughing with a surprise.

Go in, have a great laugh in the store people. I don’t know how sensitive you guys are but since you’re here on DT, you should just fine.

Spencer’s has changed! Back in the 1980s when I was a kid, the only thing that was in the back was all the Marijuana posters and paraphernalia.
Lots of bob marley and black light things.

  7. Teenager says:

WTH?!? umm im 13 and we all fckin know about this stuff… I went to pick up deodorant at the drugstore the other day and as I was checking out I was looking at the candy at the checkout and saw a trojan condom display right next to it. DEAL WITH IT.

  8. DUH says:

Um you all are obviously not seeing the point. The items are for adults 18+ dumb a$$es thats what parents are upset about. I can totally understand why she’s upset. Sure I knew what sex was by the age 8 but doesn’t mean it was right. Stop being F’en idiots. People like you make me want to back hand you. Ugh!!!!!

    • Ster says:

I think it is always better for your child to try something out, because it is always better for her/him to be using a sex toy then f****** one of there classmates. They can experiment, then when they’re ready for the real thing, then they will do it.

  9. Molly says:

TOTALLY agree with this Mom. Went in to Spencers with my adult daughter last night to look at t-shirts, turned around and saw three little boys about 10 checking out the fake boobies and sex doll toy. Spencers used to be funny and a little on the edge when we were teenagers, now it’s just a sex shop in the mall. Totally should inact an age limit to go in there. On their website they say they cater to the 18-up crowd…so don’t let minors in. Problem solved. Spencers is GROSS.

  10. TasteTheRainbow says:

Really? Florida has many more problems, and she’s focusing on sex toys? At least her daughter isn’t wandering off and getting pregnant! I enjoy the theme of Spencers, myself. In fact it’s my favorite store! Just because some people have more of an open mind than some that doesn’t mean you can restrict their rights! If I want to go into Spencers and buy a sex toy (being fifteen) I will do as I damn well please!

  11. A woman who is older already has her ideals set and has made up her mind about what she will and won’t do. The older she gets, the less likely she is to change. Younger women are more willing to compromise. It’s much easier to mold a 19 year old into the perfect woman for you. This is not saying that she will not be able to make her own decisions and has to succumb to everything you say. Thanks for the info.
