Traffic violations: the money maker.

KCTV5 News, Weather, Traffic and Sports for the Kansas City Area | KC Police Seek Answers in Case of Arrested Woman Who Miscarried — Here’s a story that will make you wonder about some police department training. Most police work todays is about motor vehicle violations and nothing else. After all you get no money from stopping crime or helping the citizens.

The videotape of Salva’s police stop was released after The Kansas City Star made an open records request. The tape shows Salva telling the officers numerous times that she was pregnant, bleeding and needing to go to the hospital.

After the ninth request, Spencer responds: “How is that my problem?”

Once she’s been told why she’s under arrest, Salva tells the officers she is having a miscarriage and is bleeding.

“Do you want to check me?” Salva asks. “I’m bleeding. I have a 3-month baby inside.”

The tape shows Schnell walking away from the car and telling his partner: “She just gave me a line of excuses. She said she’s bleeding. She said you can check her.”

Salva repeats that she’s three months pregnant and bleeding.

“OK,” Spencer answers. “Why are you driving to the store and then putting a fake temporary tag in your car?”

Salva explains that she was on her way to the hospital.

The officers make Salva sit on the curb as they search her car, purse and grocery sacks. Salva again says she’s bleeding, asks the officers to check her underwear and asks to go to the hospital.

“Well,” Spencer says, “that will be something you can take care of when we get done with you.”

Cops are not there to serve you. Cops are not there to help you. Cops exist to preserve the power structure. They are lazy, their 1st rule is to intimidate, don’t try to understand the sitiuation, just dominate. That is why it doesn’t matter when a black man is pulled over by a black cop. The cop has been brainwashed, every citizen is a potential ‘perp’ if he is not commiting a crime , he is on his way from a crime or to a crime. The power structure has been designed so everyone is breaking the law constantly and ignorance of the law is no excuse. We no longer have police, we have a police state.

3 cops in Atlanta faked a search warrant, a no-knock and shot a 92 year old women dead in her own home. Then they planted drugs in her house and tried to get a stool pigeon to say he bought drugs from her. Even the stool pigeon wasn’t ready to bend to the level of the cops and he said “hell no”

We aren’t safe in our homes, our cars, our person. we are subject to random searches at the whim of the police using the flimmisiest of excuses. This then is America in the 21st century. Police state, paranoid and bereft of the rights our ancestors died for.

It’s time for a change, I’d sure rather see a few people not get arrested for ‘bullshit’ charges and maybe a few slip thru the cracks then to treat everybody as if they were criminals.

Our society is at a breaking point. A corner is being turned, America is disappearing, if you love your country stand up for change. We the citizens are the power of this country, not the corporations and not the cops. It’s time to put a foot up their ass and let them know the owners are back and they better shape up or ship out.

The time is now or you can kiss your freedoms and your ass goodbye.

Welcome to America INC. the prison state run by corporations, for corporations.

  2. Duffy says:

Regardless of WHAT the woman was wanted for, the actions of the officers is reprehensible and I would hope that the KC police did more than just sweep it under the rug.

Of course, knowing several KC cops, I’m not surprised.

  3. TJGeezer says:

Here’s a link to an account of the “too bright to be a cop” case. It happened in New London, CT, in the mid to late 1990s, the guy sued and it made a lot of papers. The applicant’s name was Robert Jordan.

#11 is right – cops seem not just to the public but to the cops themselves more and more like an occupying force. Decking them out in paramilitary uniforms and equipment (so they can raid downloaders at the direction of the RIAA) doesn’t help matters. Nor does a populace that feels more and more threatened over behavior that harms no one – drug war is the primary culprit there. The Office of National Drug Control Policy spends over $20 billion a year on the drug war prohibiting marijuana. See http://tinyurl.com/27w55t for representative results.

#24 is right – Everything said, the cops are under extreme pressure and are probably often right to assume the public they deal with are by and large hostile to them. It makes people jumpy. But that’s why cops are given protocols to follow, and I’d bet these particular thugs in uniform did NOT follow K.C. police protocols. Protocols are rules, and one thing that makes it hard for sociologists to distinguish cops from criminals in tests is that cops and criminals both feel above the law. Come to think of it, so does the president of the U.S. Seems to be a lot of that going around.

    No… It really isn’t.

  6. Lauren the Ghoti says:

    #19 – Barrett Johnson

    Thank you.

“It’s real easy guys, just key your mike and call for an ambulance.”

That’s exactly how much effort was required on the cop’s part.

    No fucking excuse.

    And #3 – Mike Voice?

“They are expected to do curbside checks for vaginal bleeding?”

Ah, first, read above. EMS is seconds away.

Second, she told a policeWOMAN? At the station? Where they have medical personnel on duty?

The policewoman’s sympathetic response: “How is that my problem?”

Cops always griping, “Why doesn’t the public respect police officers?”
Gee, that IS a tough one. Can I get back to ya on that?

  7. Mr. Fusion says:

Some days, the idiots posting here make me feel so superior.

America is not a police state. The police do not have the same amount of power as they did even 35 years ago. Not every cop is crooked, corrupt, “out to get ya”, on a power trip, an idiot or cretin, or just plain mean. Yes, they do exist. They are, however, much in the minority and intensely despised by REAL cops.

Now folks, those old enough, remember back when the cops decided guilt and punishment ? It wasn’t too long ago. Remember when you weren’t allowed to see all the evidence against you ? Remember when anyone brought before the judge was already guilty just because the cop said so ? You don’t remember ? You must be under 50. Times have changed and most police powers have been reduced.

To anyone believeing the cops are so bad, LET YOUR REPRESENTATIVE KNOW. Until then just shut the eff up. Shooting your mouths off just makes you part of the problem.

  8. mike cannali says:

In Florida, the fines for running red lights or cutting off another driver are 10% of those for driving in the diamond lane or parking in a handicrippled spot. Since the municipalities get a slice of the action – guess where the focus is.

  9. Reality says:

Again…this is what you get when you send morons through the Police Academy. They really need to attract a higher quality of personnel into law enforcement.

  10. B. Dog says:

The next time you need help, call a pregnant Sudanese native, if you don’t like cops so much. In all fairness, why not comment on some news story where the cops get beat up or something while doing their job.
Sometimes bad guys are found during routine traffic stops.

  11. James Hill says:

#39 – Now you know how I feel about you every day.

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

    #42, No need to worship.

For the rest of you, with the obvious exceptions,…
“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” -Plato

  13. SN says:

    42. “Sometimes bad guys are found during routine traffic stops.”

So, because cops occasionally do their jobs they should be excused when they royally screw up?!

  14. Mr. Fusion says:

In my #44, I meant to single out #43.

In response to #42, the reason this has made the news is because it is unique. If it was all so commonplace, then it would not be a point worth discussing. I also take issue with your thing about police being beat up. As so often is shown later, the police over reacted and or initiated the problem.

There are some occupations where mistakes should not be tolerated. Surgeons, airline pilots, truck drivers, and ICBM commanders are just a short list that go along with police.

  15. B. Dog says:

Geez, Mr Fusion, did you or anyone else bother watching the video of her arrest? Why are people calling the cops dumb when they were so clearly overwhelmed by the sheer stupidity of the woman. Couldn’t she even spell her own first name, give them her date of birth, or tell the truth about who owned the car she was driving? She was going to the hospital? Why then did she tell the officers she was coming back from the store? She did seem to be coming back from the store, seeing as how she had so many bags of store stuff. Why did she make up and display a fake temp licence for the car, when, as one officer explained, a real one is only $7.50. How did the police overreact? They had to arrest her for outstanding warrants, after all. If she hadn’t acted like an ignorant idiot, the woman cop wouldn’t have had to explain to her that she was menstrating. One of the things in the list of reasons the woman cop gives her for why she’s being arrested is lying to a police officer, presumably about the ownership of her sister’s car. Why would they believe this seemingly numbingly stupid, uncooperative, compulsive liar’s story about having a medical problem?

  16. ashley says:

i find a fair amount of these comments to be ridiculous.
    “leave the cops alone?”

who the hell are we supposed to blame then?
the postal workers?…no im almost positive that the cops were the ones who purposly ignored the womans complaints.

why would he suspect her to be lying if she repeatedly says she can prove it? dont you think that if she were lying she wouldn’t keep screaming that there was blood to prove her problem.
obviouslt the cops knew something was up, by stating “well you can deal with that when we’re done with you” creates a great problem.

they may not of taken her seriously, but thats there own fault for being ignorant.

the cops should be arrested and put on trial for unvoluntary manslaughter. they did play a part in the death of he child.

was it because she was black? or was the problem they pulled her over really that serious?

police officers should have more extended training and background reports.

  17. ashley says:

wow, #47 you sound like a complete idiot
the woman was hard to understand on account of her have an accent, technically its hard to truely understand anything she is saying
but it is completley obvious she is asking to go to the hospital
and despite the cries she is repeatedly turned down by the ignorant cops who are more worried about the ticket
and they both even agree that the woman could possibly have a problem but their problem is more important.
the black woman was not “menstrating” obviously, or the topic of this stiutaion would be completley different.
how is it that shes a liar? because shes in all actuallity having a miscarriage, did you miss that part of the story.
wether or not the lady was lying about if she were black or not the duty of the cops is to SAVE PEOPLE not kill their babies
i hope they rot in hell, and ur sitting alongside
    stupid dick
