Global Warming: Scientific Consensus Proved Wrong
The world’s climate experts have long been making some very dire predictions about Global Warming. Because they are predictions, they rely very heavily on computer models.
Many people– especially conservatives– warned about this. They pointed out that models are prone to many errors, and the scientific consensus is not always right.
Other people chose to rely on the scientific consensus. Honesty compels me to admit that I was in this group. We didn’t think think the consensus was the last word, but we did believe it was the best window to the future a non-specialist could look through.

The consensus of climate experts were wrong. Absolutely, verifiably wrong. The computer models were wrong. They simply do not match reality.
The reality is much, MUCH worse than the scientific consensus predicted. The arctic ice cap is melting decades faster than expected. DECADES.
Time to buy Canadian tundra (ie, frozen land soon to have a Mediterranean climate apparently)? If you’d rather hold off on that move, look no further than this odd idea.

Although I suspect that Gore winning will be bashed constantly on the conservative talk shows (they’ve been pre-bashing for weeks on several shows by talking about how meaningless the award is these days), I do wish that would-be bashers would take a moment to reflect….
A former vice-President of the United States has won the Nobel Peace Prize. Forget left and right, liberal and conservative. These days, America has a seriously damaged reputation in the world. Mr. Gore winning this prize reflects well on him, and – I believe – well on our nation.
So before the bashing begins, consider that bashing this recognition of Gore’s efforts would also be a bashing of an American Vice President.

Wait until that permafrost thaws and starts burping methane. The current climate models have a tough time predicting the weather three days out, but it’s all we have. Some always have their heads in the sand, others will run around like Chicken Little. A few will buckle down and figure out how the human race can best survive the coming upheaval.
Off the Gore topic for a moment, the idea that the IPCC has been horribly overly conservative has been one scientists have been saying for a long time. IPCC being by consensus actually makes them among the most conservative bodies on the planet. If one Saudi, Chinese, or American scientist refuses to say something, it won’t get said. And these are the largest oil exporter, coal burner, and oil importer, respectively.
Back to Gore now, many congratulations on a job very well done!! Too bad more of your countrymen refuse to listen. Of course, it really is worth a lot less since Arafat got one.
If things are that much worse than the computer models, we have already passed any kind of tipping point. Time to sell that property along the coast..

anyone who chooses not believe in the thousands of well-educated scientists who stand to gain nothing that the current global warming trend is exaggerated by human activity and chooses to believe in a couple dozen well-funded scientists with lots of money to gain, funded by corporations with billions to gain, clearly value their own finances over.the health and well-being of the planet.
#2 – In case you haven’t noticed “Bush Derangement Syndrome” – one of our most basic freedoms is the freedom to bash our elected leaders.
Don’t forget that Jimmy Carter won the Peace Prize also and he’s nothing more than an anti-semitic, appeaser and the worst President in the history of the Republic. I feel free to bash him, Algore and the Peace Prize itself since it no longer holds any special respect. It has morphed into a political tool and that’s about it.
On the main topic: since everyone is so convinced we can control the environment, why not blow off some nukes in volcanoes to set them off and cause a cooling cycle? Sounds like fun.
Looking at the other article, I think we should try all the schemes mentioned simultaneoulsy. It would be entertaining.

The Truth is that the environment should be protected because it sustains us. Nature doesn’t need us. We cannot destroy nature. We cannot destroy nature. We cannot destroy the Earth. Nature does not need us. It survived for the past few billion years without man. And without man, there was peace on Earth. There was violence because that is the nature of killing in the law of the jungle. But balance had been achieved.
Conservatives want to drill for oil in pristine lands. They want to turn the worlds forests into asphalt parking lots and Mall Americas.
Have you seen the quality of air in American cities? You want your kids to breath that?
Al Gore’s campaign is a campaign of fear because fear is the only motivator to action for the general population. Al Gore is simply saying, “clean air, unpolluted waters, keep Nature’s balance by protecting existing species (including our own)”.
Global warming is a hoax but it is a necessary one so that the call to action to protect Nature is written into the laws of every sovereign nation and held in the hearts of every national citizen.
If that is accomplished, Al Gore deserves more than the Nobel Prize. He deserves a place in the pantheon of Great Men.
Thank God (oh, I’m sorry) Thank “what ever force is steering the universe” for the last spat of “global warming”. We in western NY enjoy the results. Incredibly rich farm land; the Finger Lakes Region; Niagara Falls; the Great Lakes. All due to the spontaneous melting of the massive sheet of ice that covered a good portion of North America. It’s funny that archaeologists have not yet found the ancient SUVs that caused this calamity.
Typical Conservative trick. Attack Al Gore and the Nobel Peace Prize as a distraction, because they do not want to face the truth about Global Warming.
And Shhh is right in one respect. Nature has a way of correcting itself. Not only is the affects of global warming decades ahead of schedule, but so is Peak Oil, which apparently has already happened, despite predictions that it wont hit till 2020. So if cars are the cause of Global Warming, soon we will not be able to afford to drive.
I have been screaming for years, about this, and now the visual data bears me out.
I have been telling people about the inevitable climate changes for about 35 years now. Maybe they will listen. I say maybe, because there are still some naysayers here.
Wake up sheeple. You have to change your way of life if you care about the future generations here on planet Earth!

Just for the sake of argument, let’s say GW is happening as the fearmongers are claiming. Who says it’s a bad thing on the whole? I see a lot of good. Yeah, it might be bad for some people, but it may also be good for many others.
Misanthropic Scott believes we’ll see a billion homeless zombies wandering the land looking for someone to eat. I don’t buy it.

Sounds like you’ve been reading Plan B 2.0. Excellent book. I’d also note that in the corrections for the environmental problems of the world, we are also past peak grain and past peak ocean fisheries output. That should put a crimp in our plans to hit 8 or 9 billion.

You make some excellent points. Except, you seem to be convinced that global warming is a hoax. For some reason on that point alone, you seem to avoid turning to science. Read the peer reviewed publications. When they get too technical, at least tune out anything that doesn’t come from a reputable news source and reference a peer reviewed publication. (Hint: Fox is not a reputable news source.)
Why does everyone think that people are the reason for the climate change and that it can be reversed. The Earth has gone through these heating and cooling cycles for millions of years. Ever heard of the ice age? Or did the caveman’s fires cause that cooling effect as well?
If you want to cut down on pollution, kill all the cows, they are the leading producer of pollution!

The islands just south of the North Pole are becoming green marshes. The point of no return has been reached.
The next 2 years will be the melting of Greenland’s glacier, which will raise the ocean’s level.
Australia is becoming paranoid, that many displaced Asians will move to Australia’s North Shore to colonize that area.

Just because a huge number of peer reviewed scientific papers say that this time it’s us. Just because a huge number of peer reviewed scientific papers say that it is happening and order of magnitude or two faster than it ever has. Just because the overwhelming majority of the world’s climate scientists say so.
Could they be wrong? Yes. Are you willing to bet the survival of our species on them being wrong?
