Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin faces a getting-to-know-you process as the Republican vice presidential candidate, a USA TODAY-Gallup Poll finds: Most Americans say they’ve never heard of her.

There is also wide uncertainty about whether she’s qualified to be president. In the poll, taken Friday, 39% say she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33% say she isn’t, and 29% have no opinion.

That’s the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then-Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988. In comparison, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was seen as qualified by 57%-18% after Democrat Barack Obama chose him as a running mate last week.

Not that I’m being more cynical than usual, you understand.

DNA would prove it without a doubt. The rumor has been around for months. They could have nipped this in the bud.

  2. #62 – Lyin’ Mike

The documents may have been debunked, but the underlying story (that Dumbya was AWOL in ‘bama instead of flying those potted plants around Dixie, while his bretheren were dying in rice paddies) is pretty much accepted as gospel.

As to the kid, she could “debunk” the idea that the kid is really her grand-daughter in the blink of an eye. If she’s really NOT her grand-daughter.

The fact that she hasn’t, even though these rumors have been circulating the globe for months speaks VOLUMES.

  3. MikeN says:

Yes it speaks volumes. That she isn’t going to respond to every ridiculous rumor.

Plus any debunking would not be accepted, just as the National Guard document debunking has not been accepted in the fever swamps of the left(I thought you were part of that, but now you seem to be backing off).

DNA tests or other tests may be too similar between family members. The left might just claim the dogracer raped his daughter. It’s not proven you see.

  4. Jägermeister says:

Or that she can’t handle a brewing crisis.

Plus any debunking would not be accepted…

As I said before… DNA evidence – by an independent test lab – would put this to rest once and for all.

DNA tests or other tests may be too similar between family members.

DNA test Sarah, her husband and Bristol. I’m confident the scientists has software for DNA analysis (which can point out the small differences inside a family).

  5. MikeN says:

Jager, my points don’t make any sense if you weren’t following the National Guard story. The memos were thoroughly proven to be fakes http://www.flounder.com/bush2.htm , and still the lefties won’t accept that, and say the jury is still out. Given that, no evidence will convince the lefties on this story either.

The guy seem to have done extensive work on analyzing the documents. If he gets his work peer reviewed (I’m no expert on fonts and stuff) and it passes, then there shouldn’t be any doubt about it.

The same goes with the DNA testing the Palin family… test Sarah, her husband, Bristol and the baby… send the test samples to an independent lab (or two, if someone doubts the results). That would confirm or deny the rumor once and for all. Sarah should have killed this rumor before it got out of hand.

That’s just it Jager, most lefties won’t make the conclusion you make. They say the jury is still out on the documents. It is one of the threads from a few weeks ago. Same way, with any DNA testing, they will just say the jury is still out.
I don’t think Palin should have to respond to every rumor, and this one doesn’t even rise to the level of a rumor. Just random musings that no one takes seriously.

The rumor has been making its rounds in Alaska for months. It’s not something that popped up just because Palin joined McCain.

While the DNA of daughter/mother would be too close to differentiate, I would think it would be easy enough to determine if Palin’s husband or her daughter’s boyfriend is the father through a simple blood test.

In the end, it makes no difference. She *is* caring for the child. It is an example of taking responsibility which will resonate among many voters.

As an independent I get a little tired of all this poor analysis and debating technique. On the one hand some present potential scandal as if it’s true out of a desire for it to be true. Please don’t call that reasonable. Fortunately, it happens so much that it makes no difference. Not only that but the nature of the potential scandals are really fairly minor. But go ahead and continue to dilute the debate so the rest of us who are serious about taking an honest look can’t see the real scandals. Thanks a lot.

On the other hand, there’s a sense of ‘I don’t want to hear about weaknesses’ on the conservative side.

The problem is that the debate that is taking place on all issues is broken. Both sides attack anything that even seems to support the opposition. How else do you explain one side says, ‘ha, she has no experience’, the other ‘but she lives next to Russia’, then ‘lets all laugh at the ridiculous comment.’ Give me a break, don’t you have something better to do that search the internet for video.

For those who are really going to decide the election it’s going to come down to whether we really believe that she is what she says she is. Isn’t that the point of these petty debates? To try to give the impression that she isn’t who she says she is?

Go ahead and say whatever you want but realize that it either contributes to knowledge or dilutes it.

    >>Not only that but the nature of the
    >>potential scandals are really fairly minor.

Just like with Richard Nixon, Martha Stewart, Scooter Libby, and so many other, the real bite in the ass doesn’t come from the “scandal” itself.

It comes from the tangled web the perpetrators weave to cover it up.

Then, they’re not only branded as a B&E artist/ inside trader/ traitor, they’re also branded as liars.

People may forgive a little petty crime once in a while, but being a liar is a character defect that goes to the core of their personality.

I find the video’s to be informative and enjoyable. Whats your problem with them?

I pretty much take the candidates at their word, or rather, all their words. I don’t think anyone disbelieves Palin when she says creationism should be taught in school. Why are YOU so disbelieving?

I think cynical non-group supportive statements are very hurtful. You must be a vegan?

Sorry, but your link is bullshit and has several glaring errors in it. It has been debunked.

It is plain you can’t stay on topic because Palin is a dud candidate. She isn’t qualified to be governor of Alaska let alone a heartbeat away from the highest post in the free world.

While the DNA of daughter/mother would be too close to differentiate,

Testing could easily tell if one was a mother or grandmother of the child in question.
