  1. Tales says:

that was hilarious… sadly though in allot of cases this will be true 🙁

  2. iGoByDoc says:

That was hilarious… as well as a little sad maybe.

Hmm… maybe I should check out that one dubbya dubbya dubbya site she was talking about. I needs to get a new TV.

  3. Dallas says:

Was that McCain’s grand daughter? She was funny indeed.

  4. EvilPolitians says:

    That was great!

So what will the press do on the day of the conversion? Hype the civil unrest?

  5. Esteban says:

    #4. No. Great-granddaughter.

  6. Mark T. says:

    Aaron, you forgot the “wuh-wuh-wuh-period”.

  7. rectagon says:

Two points for John… even it was old… because I hadn’t seen it yet. :-

  8. Improbus says:

Reminds me of mom. I got a TV tech support call from her just the other day.

  9. ArianeB says:

    Question:

After the Hurricane in Houston when all the power went out, many people relied on battery powered portable TVs to find out what was going on.

Guess after the digital conversion, the next post disaster power outage will not have that option available.

  10. Rebster says:

Tell you what – my 85-year-old neighbor across the road was feeling the end was near, so what does she do? Figures she’ll go out in style, traded her 52-inch for a 72-inch and upgraded to HD. She needed a bit of help with the new remote, but man, now I’m seriously out-teched. Her favorite thing to watch (Hockey) was amazing!

  11. Rubbish says:

They have these new-fangled digital portable tvs now, pops.

  12. EvilPolitians says:

#11 – ArianeB – they just need to pick up one of those new fangled portable digitable televisions

  13. Improbus says:

    #13 EvilPolitians

I think they call those “phones” now.

  14. bac says:

What will cable and satellite companies do about pricing after the switch occurs? Lower, keep the same or raise prices?

  15. floyd says:

Reminds me of the notice in the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” about the “demolition of the Earth for a hypergalactic bypass” that no one on Earth knew about–except Ford Prefect.

  16. PierreB says:

My mother and mother-in-law are in their 80’s. I couldn’t help but to see them in these videos – a hoot.

  17. Ed Ovett says:

Sadly, this is my brother-in-law and my sister personified, now retired in Boca Raton, Florida. Just last night he couldn’t find the correct digital camera cable for downloading photos! Oh, did I mention absolutely no memory of past phone lessons given?

  18. Greg Allen says:

I applied for my coupons and they never came. The website says that they can not be replaced “UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE”.

Even if the circumstance is the program’s own incompetence, I guess. Nice.

  19. cluteman says:

#4 Search for “John McCain’s Youngest Daughter” on youtube, the same actress plays McCain’s daughter in a fake interview with Spike Feresten. 🙂

  20. LinusVP says:

    Ha Ha

    It’s funny because she’s old.

  21. Grayven says:

It will be sad if some of the elderly lose one of their few pleasures due to the DTV conversion. I hope someone looks out for those of them without technical competence or kind grandchildren.

  22. Rick Cain says:

I’m barely old enough to know who Jack Benny was.

  23. Mac Guy says:

Hey now… My 94-year old grandmother is online, and she’s an email FIEND. No joke. Born in 1914, only 2 years after Titanic sank, and she’s an email wiz.

But yeah, I can see a lot of people having troubles with this switchover.

  24. Miguel says:

The lovely lady probably witnessed the switch to Digital Radio during the Great Depression years… no?…

This is funny beyond words! 🙂

  25. Stu Mulne says:

Other than every set in the house being on cable except a little pocket Casio from 1989, I barely care. But this is still a travesty…. In effect, they’re charging everybody who’s doing “over the air” TV-watching $40-$100 to be able to continue to do it. (I’m aware of the coupon.)

Sure sounds like an Al Gore solution to a problem that really never existed. I know they’re trying to re-farm some spectrum, but in many areas (like mine), it’s not needed. And, since the “new” services have to move INTO something or other, why not move ’em someplace else?

Given the garbage on Network and NPR TV of late, I can live without them…. Besides, once Obama takes power, TV’s will only have one channel, run by the Government, and will watch you….

  26. Balbas says:

Almost as fun as talking to the Radio Shack salesguy the other day …

  27. SnotLikeBlasterpoop says:

It’s hilarious because of the underlying truth.

  28. Pagon says:

    # 16 bac said, “What will cable and satellite companies do about pricing after the switch occurs? Lower, keep the same or raise prices?”
    —-
Now that have you locked in they’re going to lower prices?? get serious.
    —-
Cable – satellite – tv makers (all overseas btw) set top box makers – everyone benefits except the public. Absolutely no benefit for the public.
Don’t tell me how much better it will be. Anyone can have them right now – if they want them. The bought-and-paid-for congress is forcing it on the public.
Wait till the reception problems start. Weak analog signals come in with noise. Weak digital signals don’t come in at all. You know how digital is – on or off.
There are only 10 kinds of people. People who understand binary and those who don’t.
