I’m not sure I’m willing to accept any explanation about anything from anyone who can’t tell the difference between a snow storm and an ice age.
JApp, you’re dead on the money with post #6.
Unfortunately you’re not going to get through to the drones that have been brainwashed by corporate media.
There’s no doubt that we’ve been experiencing both record heat and cold waves the last few years.
The last time the sun was this quiet, the world entered a prolong cold spell that scientist dubbed the mini-ice age.
So you can look at the sun and conclude that our climate is going to get colder, or you can worship at the House of Gore and read from the Warming Bible, as edited by Mann and Hansen.
Global Warming is real. Whether it is influenced significantly by man, and if so how much, has yet to shown.
However global warming doesn’t mean everyplace will be warm and sunny, it only means MORE EXTREME weather. Arid places may become more arid or wetter. Just expect more severe weather, sometimes of unusual type. (Except Buffalo, NY – a place with great people who are always experiencing extreme weather – at least whenever I’m visiting đ
All you man-made global warming believers: suggest a solution that doesn’t involve a lower standard of living. Smaller cars and less urban sprawl are unnacceptable. Americans living large is the reason the universe exists. If you don’t like 4x4s, kill yourself so you don’t burden the useful portion of humanity. .
When there’s a drought, it’s global warming. Hotter = drier. Makes sense.
When it snows or rains a lot, it’s global warming. Hotter = more moisture. Makes sense.
Wait. WTF? Are they EVER wrong?
Usual cast of fools piping up here. New cast with the old arguments and explanations.
#19–There’s JB and his “any fraud discounts the consensus reached by those who aren’t part of the fraud” logic error. I hear some people sell almond oil as a cancer cure. It doesn’t work, its Fraud. Does it follow that cancer doesn’t exist? Poor old JB, stuck on his one note.
#25–dismal==thats atleast new wording for your Mother Gaia hypothesis. Made up out of whole cloth originally with sunflowers or poppies I think? And the number of qualified scientist that have signed on to this Goldilocks Story of yours is how many?
#26–and Guyver==I am seriously surprised to see you posting on this “again.” Not as detailed as in the past, must be flagging? Same lies and diversions just not as much fun for you? But I do admire your style:
1. ROFLMAO. So global warming is responsible for EVERYTHING. It causes excessive snow and cold air. /// Yes, Now you are getting it. Not that hard if you can walk and chew gum at the same time: The extremes become worse while (and as a concomitant act of) the average going up. Its the “energy” of the system. Really embarassing to see a man of your intellectual accomplishments lead with ignorance of basic science.
2- Too bad much of global warming âscienceâ doesnât apply the scientific method or use empirical evidence. //// Well, in its “best light, thats definitional. No, there will NEVER be proof of AGW because there is no control group necessary to formal “proof” ((yes, outside of mathematics)). Just like there is no proof that cigarettes cause cancer ((yada, yada)) or that vitamin c deficiency causes scurvy. No human control groups. Just imagine how stupid you would be to “require” proof for so many things that comprise “common sense” today? Why have you thrown over your common sense McGuyver?
3==Regardless, how can you prove that global warming is man-made? /// See No2-you can’t. Just strong correlations which is the best science can offer when control groups are not possible/allowed. The opposite though is still a puzzler: How would dumping billions of tons of co2 into the atmosphere have no effect at all? Dismal’s Poppy Proposition? No scientific backing. Just made up BS? Is that your position Bunky?
Well, there’s no proof the sun will even come up tomorrow, so why set the alarm clock? Silly McGuyver. Idiot talk.
And so the answer is: Devo.
# 6 JApp said, “The more water in the atmosphere, the more extreme the weather will become.” So. by your logic, I should be apologizing for advancing the next ice age because I took a long, hot shower this morning?
# 17 jimsum said, “How can you prove that it isnât slightly warmer today than it would be without global warming?” WOW! How can YOU prove that it isn’t slightly COLDER today than it would be WITH global warming?
#36–Stool==investment in/development of green energy. Easy Peasey.
#37–usa==remember your post. One day you might realize just how ignorant you sound. AGW may be true or false but you don’t even understand the theory YET are proud to point out your own stupidity. How about some BASIC 8th Grade Physics? What happens when you heat water? We’ll all wait for your answer.
Whaddabunchastooges.
Animby==no, you should be apologizing for conflating humidity with temperature. I know you know the difference AND just where to put that thermometer. Yes, that 10 inch thermometer. Still phoning it in? You travel too much to enjoy it.
What green energy isn’t more expensive than current sources? Increasing costs is not allowed.
#40 – Bobbo
It’s funny hearing you call someone ignorant. Was one or two weeks that you were using the words weather and climate incorrectly? Are you still confused with the meaning of the words? You seem like a slow learning.
It does seem likely that adding CO2 to the atmosphere would make the planet warmer however there is nothing at all that allows anyone to know how much the amounts of CO2 added by humans has warmed the planet.
There is so much going on and the modals fail so completely that the real answer may be that the impact on the climate can best be summed up as trivial. To make matters worse the information being feed into the modals has been “adjusted” so much that much of the raw data is lost and these people are now dealing with data that for all normal purposes is fictional.
They no longer have the foundation of raw data they need to begin testing their ideas for validity however many of the things they have predicted in the past have now been invalidated because they did not occur. Beyond a three day forecast they are wildly inaccurate.
Two simple examples not extending into the more distant future is they predicted drought for Australia until the flooding started and they predicted a mild to normal winter in England.
Since it is harder to get a long range forecast right than a near term one I find no reason to think they have any more idea of long term climate trends than the average person on the street. Maybe less because any student of History knows that the flooding in Oz has followed a ~19 yr cycle all the way back into the 1800s.
The fact that the cycle is continuing suggest the alarmist are wrong about the patterns changing. The Old farmers almanac predicted a cold winter using traditional means and ignoring the alarmist and they got it right.
Is cap a train a sane option if you are interested in preventing man made global warming?
A great many people who aren’t crooks and are card carrying members of the man made global warming climatologist crowd state that _nothing_ that has been suggested to reduce carbon emissions in North America is going to have more than a very trivial effect on the climate. According to them the science is in on that.
If one can save the world by ruining yourself then maybe it’s worth being ruined. Ruining yourself to make people dealing in carbon credits and selling solar cells and wind turbines rich seems foolish in the extreme to me.
Reading the posts here I can see that probably about 50% believe that Global Warming is real and man-made, and 50% do not believe it whatsoever. I say then it’s effectively a draw. That is to say: “nothing to see here, move along.” We have no consensus at all on the matter. It seems we are all wasting a lot of our energy in a squirrel cage and getting nothing accomplished. Let’s focus on other things that actually deserve our energy, like our political and financial problems. Let’s not ignore the bleeding severed arm for the sake of the mere paper cut on the other arm.
#42–Stool==your question was future based, as is the correct answer. Its one kind of ignorance that leads to asking the question, another wholly different type to challenge the answer.
#43–rictard==produce the statement or stfu as a BS artist, with very little art.
#44–dismal==you really should treat yourself better. Given the length, I guess you are being serious? Seriously???? Ha, ha. My perception/memory of your posts on this issue is that you have some technical expertise relevant to the issue and a broad range of various “facts?” Would you care to seriously engage in a cage match? Perhaps Guyver and all others would care to join? Cage Match: our best thoughts only.
#45–monkey==you are off topic. Thats more disrespectful than me calling Alfie a miscreant. Focus.
The problem with the current thinking about global warming that the conclusion is depend on the correlation of co2 and global temperature. Ihave not seen any proof that the main premise that CO2 retains heat on our planet. So simple to prove, take a set of temperatures in the evening with many of the factor taken away (change of weather, humidy) and see that the hourly temperature change is slower than lets say 50 years ago.
Great pic.
http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/45220/bastardi-three-of-next-five-wi.asp
Bastardi thinks that not only will the next few winters be colder than normal for much of the U.S., but that the long-term climate will turn colder over the next 20 to 30 years.
http://www.iceagenow.com/index.htm
Itâs a cycle, itâs a cycle, itâs a cycle!
This guy thinks it the beginning of a new Ice Age…
So all you global warming proponents: Big volcano Shinmoedake erupts in Japan. Pumping tons of CO2 into the air. But also blowing huge clouds of ash! The CO2 is a greenhouse gas and so will contribute to warming. But the ash will reflect solar energy and lower temperatures. Which will be the greater effect and how will we survive? Should we be taxing Japan for allowing this mess? Would it affect their legislated CO2 caps? Meantime, Etna is billowing out over Sicily. What are Kilauea and Mauna Loa doing to our environment?
# 41 bobbo, “you should be apologizing for conflating humidity with temperature”
Actually, I was not mixing the two. I was apologizing for adding so much water vapor to the atmosphere. The hot shower just causing it to evaporate so much easier.
I am back in Phnom Penh, thus the luxury of a long, hot shower. With any luck, I should be home tomorrow.
So much Kool-Aid drinking in these comments. One year we have a warm winter without snow, and it’s proof of global warming. The next year we have a cold winter and heavy snow, and it’s proof of global warming. Everything that happens is just proof of what you already believe.
There are scientists who swear by homeopathy. And there are scientists who say global warming is complete nonsense. The moral is we don’t know for sure and to suggest otherwise is dishonest at best.
Animby–I hate it when I reread my posts and my meaning is not clear even to myself. Maybe I was lost in my own parallel sarcasm and came off sounding as irrelevant as you did? Not good form on my part. Heh, heh.
As I recall, you are not as hard core Luddite on AGW as your postings imply?
Animby===small. Volcano====Large. AGW====Not understood at all. Ergo===Volcanoes must have a large countervailing effect. You should be embarrassed. I will be if the “average” volcanic activity is not part of the model(s) IPCC uses. They are but bumps in the road. Should enough of them erupt long enough throwing our climate into cooling, then the ASSUMPTIONS of the model will not have been met.
Easy Peasey. Animby–I thought you were a scientist?
Speaking of being embarrassed, should I even waste my time google what kind of tv weatherman Bastardi is? One of the dumbest/richest guys I ever knew was a weather caster. Made all his money in Walnut Farming.
David==what is your “best guess?”
First off…
@ # 24, I believe you are referring to the blizzard of 1979.
Secondly…
I live roughly 90 miles from Chicago and it was quite a storm. My college classes are cancelled tomorrow for the third day in a row. I know that sounds good, but in reality I am sure to be swamped with homework soon. I already have been e-mailed by several of my professors about the upcoming restructuring of their syllabi due to this. NOT COOL!
Lastly…
Lake Michigan @ Chicago in November = very scary. You definitely would not want to fall off the pier, or stand on the breaker walls.
Bastardi = weatherman
Felix = a “science” writer across various disciplines.
Well Done Gaylord. Pure Pop Opinion. What is it—reverse psychology?

So, not for advancing any ice age, but for advancing the next killer hurricane season, drought, heat wave, severe weather outbreak, etc., yeah, in a small way.

Why? Because you say so? Shouting “S.O.E.” may stop a punch in the arm but Nature is unmoved.
on a slightly different note, but related to weather… maybe i’m a crackpot, but the big cyclone in QLD, Australia has an interesting name, Cyclone Yasi which spelt backwards is isaY, or I Say, or I am telling you.
Kinda like someone steering the cyclone into the area, then saying
“You know, old chap, if you don’t pay your carbon taxes we will, we will, wet you, wet you. Im telling you.”
I Say it is so. Yasi – iSay
This is simply one aspect of the internet: everything is politicized so completely there’s no telling what reality is.
Folks,
they say this cold stuff is caused by weather patterns
due to La Nina.
This is a condition whereby the equator and eastern
pacific is COLDER than normal.
My take on all this bullshit is this:
The Earth’s climate has a long history of fluctuation.
There have been Ice Ages, and warmer periods.
So who gives a fuck?
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
Who gives a fuck?
Global warming fools, get your head out of your ass.
Live your fucking life, and die like everyone else.
The fucking world will go on, without you, very nicely.
Just watch Day After Tomorrow again idiots.it’s
gonna explain simple to why is colder on north
hemisphere during winter time, and after winter
compare average temperature of hole winter with
last year winter and it’s gonna be warmer
Oh, John!
It’s like shooting fish in a barrel!
