State Rep. Sue Tibbs was one of the sponsors of a bill that makes it unlawful for “any person to willfully fortify an access point into any dwelling, structure, building or other place where a felony offense prohibited by the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act is being committed, or attempted, and the fortification is for the purpose of preventing or delaying entry or access by a law enforcement officer, or to harm or injure a law enforcement officer in the performance of official duties.”

The law took effect Nov. 1.

The law states that to “fortify an access point” means to willfully construct, install, position, use or hold any material or device designed to injure a person upon entry or to strengthen, defend, restrict or obstruct any door, window or other opening into a dwelling, structure, building or other place to any extent beyond the security provided by a commercial alarm system, lock or deadbolt, or a combination of alarm, lock or deadbolt.

The law carries punishment of imprisonment of not more than five years or by a fine up to $10,000 or by both.

This law is too ambiguous. If the dwelling is already being used for illegal activites, then what exactly is the point? This smells fishy.

London, Feb 6 (IANS) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan isn’t intimidated by the full body-scan machines that have been recently installed at London’s airports – in fact, he’s been signing off printouts of his X-rays. ‘I was in London recently going through the airport and these new machines have come up, the body scans. You’ve got to see them. It makes you embarrassed – if you’re not well endowed.

‘You walk into the machine and everything – the whole outline of your body – comes out.’

Khan said he did not know that the body-scans – installed in the wake of last year’s abortive Christmas Day bombing of a transatlantic flight over Detroit – showed up every little detail of one’s body. ‘I was a little scared. Something happens [inside the scans], and I came out.

‘Then I saw these girls – they had these printouts. I looked at them. I thought they were some forms you had to fill. I said ‘give them to me’ – and you could see everything inside. So I autographed them for them.’

UPDATE: For those who were wondering, yes, the room, bed and nightstand are 3D computer graphics. The dino, of course, is real.

A new study suggests that beer is a significant source of dietary silicon, a key ingredient for increasing bone mineral density. Researchers from the Department of Food Science & Technology at the University of California, Davis studied commercial beer production to determine the relationship between beer production methods and the resulting silicon content, concluding that beer is a rich source of dietary silicon.

I’m always happy to hear that beer is good for you.

President Barack Obama won’t be re-elected in 2012 unless he can “toughen up” on national security, according to Sarah Palin. The former Governor of Alaska believes that declaring war on Iran could help the president get re-elected.

“Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decided really to come out and do whatever he could to support Israel, which I would like him to do,” Palin told Fox News’ Chris Wallace Sunday. “That changes the dynamics in what we can assume is going to happen between now and three years.”

Palin clarified that she doesn’t think that Obama would cynically “play the war card” to help his 2012 bid. “I’m saying if he did, things would dramatically change if he decided to toughen up and do all that he can to secure our nation and our allies,” she said.

Palin said she doesn’t think Obama would be re-elected if he ran today.

Obama could find himself going up against the former governor when he runs for re-election. Palin told Chris Wallace that she wasn’t ruling out the possibility of running for office. “I won’t close the door that perhaps could be open for me in the future,” she said.

This woman is a loose cannon. She needs to be shut down, before it’s too late.

I went to the local 99 cent store in Gilroy California yesterday and noticed that I was being charged one dollar on every item I bought. Although it is just a penny and I can afford a penny, it’s the fact that I’m being lied to one more time that bothers me.

The way they cover this is once you are in the store, some signs have the fine print where it’s not really 99 cents, it’s 99.99 cents. When you get to the cash register however the screen indicates that they are rounding the 99.99 cents up to a dollar, so it’s not really even 99.99 cents. It is actually $1.00.

When a store uses 99 cents as it’s identity stating that you will never pay more and 99 cents for anything and then you end up paying a dollar, that’s more than just a 1 cent fib. It makes the whole premise of your business model a lie. It makes your identity a lie. It makes your brand a lie. That’s a big lie. It takes the magic out of the 99 cent name. And once the magic is gone then you realize that you probably could get the same item at Walmart or Costco for even less.

So Dvorak/blog readers – How do you feel about paying a buck at the 99 cent store? Do you think they are being smart about this by milking the customer for that extra penny at the expense of their very identity?

This is the all-sheep version

A bizarre campaign ad by Senate candidate Carly Fiorina featuring what has been dubbed a “Demon Sheep” has transcended California politics to become an Internet sensation, but analysts wonder if it was such a good idea.

The Internet video, which features a man in a sheep costume with glowing red eyes crawling around a meadow, has gone viral — with the official version clocking nearly 450,000 views on YouTube as of Friday.

Since its release on Wednesday, the Demon Sheep also has inspired a Facebook group, Twitter feeds and a T-shirt line.

But political experts say the point behind the three-minute, 21-second blurb, attacking Fiorina’s top rival for the Republican nomination, Tom Campbell, as a “fiscal conservative in name only,” may have been lost…

“Carly Fiorina’s campaign is in full Mutton Meltdown mode, with an increasingly bizarre fixation on farm animals,” Campbell, who leads both Fiorina and state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in polls, said in a statement posted on his website.

DeVore, who is running third in the race to challenge Democratic incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer in the November election, launched a website for the “society for the eradication of demon sheep from our political discourse.”

They probably deserve each other.

At least 50 people where evacuated from the Children’s Court of Victoria in Melbourne’s CBD this morning after security officers used capsicum spray to stop a fight between two males.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said protective services officers had used the spray when a fight broke out between the pair on the first floor of the court building on Little Lonsdale Street.

Everyone in the building, including those in its nine court rooms, were evacuated between 10.30 and 11am, a court spokeswoman said this morning.

She said this was because the capsicum spray was spread throughout the complex by the building’s airconditioning system.

No one was injured.

The fight occurred outside a court room. Police will question the two males involved.

Cue the Dead Kennedy’s Chemical Warfare.

Check out this astonishing political ad in the upcoming New Orleans elections. The ad from Dwight McKenna, a candidate for Orleans Parish Coroner, attacks the incumbent coroner, Frank Minyard, as a Dr. Frankenstein who sells body parts — complete with an assistant Igor, from out of the old Universal Studios movies!

“Igor! Igor!” the mad scientist says.

“Yes, Doctor!” the hunchbacked assistant replies.

“We need a heart, a spleen, and a liver, for tonight’s sale!”

“Yes, Dr. Minyard!”

Politics… not for the faint of heart.

A U.S. soldier has been accused of ‘waterboarding’ his four-year-old daughter because she couldn’t recite the alphabet. Joshua Tabor admitted to police that he used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry. As his daughter ‘squirmed’ to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face – upwards – three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, admitted to investigators that his daughter was terrified of water and he had deliberately chosen the punishment. Tabor, a soldier at a base in Tacoma, Washington, flew into a rage after his daughter was unable to recite her ABC’s.

As his girlfriend looked on he grabbed the child and placed her on the kitchen counter before submerging her face upwards into a bowl of water. Police Sgt Rob Carlson said the punishment was carried out because the girl would not recite the alphabet. When police spoke to the girl they noticed she had bruising on her back and scratch marks on her neck and throat. When asked how she got the bruises, the girl replied: ‘Daddy did it.’

During a police interview Tabor admitted holding his daughter underwater. The child has been taken into care by social workers..
