Clearly, we have no way to defend ourselves with so few military protections in place.

Who here thinks we’ll be at war with Iran before the next election? If so, who thinks this won’t be politically motivated? If so, who wants to buy this machine I built that turns politician’s hot air into gold?

Each star marks a US military base, but just so we’re all clear: Iran is threatening the US.

…not just the Republican nomination because the others implode, but the November election because the country is tired of Obama. Then what? Given the state of our bought and paid for Congress, will President Ron Paul be able to do anything other than veto whatever comes before him? Will Congress ensure he’s irrelevant?

Would your Uncle Dave vote for him if he runs against Obama? Small fed government, wants the government out of out private lives, anti-interventionist, etc. Those are on my wishlist. He goes too far on a few things, but he’s got my vote!

In a year of flameouts, nonstarters and unfulfilled potential, one Republican presidential candidate is clearly exceeding expectations. His name is Ron Paul.

He is eccentric and sometimes appears a little cranky, but the septuagenarian candidate has done several things that Mitt Romney can’t claim. He has raised more money in this campaign than in his last (Romney has raised more than Paul but less than he did in 2008). He has enlarged his base of support and has risen in the polls over the course of the year.

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the tale of Steven Howards, a Lane client who says his freedom of speech was chilled by the Secret Service at a Colorado appearance by then-Vice President Dick Cheney. What’s the crux of the case?

According to Lane, “The issue is, does probable cause for an arrest eliminate your right to have a trial on your First Amendment rights?”

The controversy dates back to a 2006 Cheney appearance in Beaver Creek.

“Hypothetically, a guy could make an anti-police speech to a crowd and then throw down a cigarette butt, and they could arrest him for littering when everyone knows the real reason he was being arrested was because they didn’t like his speech. And various circuit courts have held that you don’t get to go to court on a First Amendment claim if they had probable cause to arrest you for something else — and they can always come up with something to arrest you for, completely ignoring the fact that the subjective intent of the police officer was to punish you for free speech.

“MVRDV regrets deeply any connotations The Cloud projects evokes regarding 9/11. It was not our intention to create an image resembling the attacks nor did we see the resemblance during the design process. The design inspiration of The Cloud is visualised in the first image on our website, a cloud covering the centre of the Sky scraper.”

From Space.com: On Dec. 1, a camera onboard NASA’s STEREO spacecraft recorded a wave of electrically charged material shooting out from the sun and blasting Mercury. Footage of this “coronal mass ejection” (CME), as such events are called, has caught the attention of alien-hunters, who say it has unveiled a giant, “cloaked” spaceship parked near the solar system’s innermost planet.

In the footage, one sees a huge spurt of plasma and other solar ejecta washing over Mercury; peculiarly, the material seems to flare up as it hits another nearby object, too. “It’s cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it’s cloaked,” YouTube-user siniXster said in his video commentary on the footage, which has quickly spread across the Web.

Alien Terrorists, the borders wide open….whats next?

Global warming is the most significant scientific and political issue of recent decades. Manchester United is the most significant soccer club of recent decades. Could the two be linked?

I examined this one afternoon, by looking at global temperatures and Manchester United’s FA cup appearances since 1881. I averaged the data over 11 years, to mitigate the impact of the solar cycle.

The results are remarkable. Each Manchester United FA Cup appearance in an 11-year period raised global temperatures by 0.1º Celsius.

A plot of global temperatures and the Manchester United Climate Model reveals that half of global warming is the result of Manchester United.

As if I needed another reason to hate The Red Scum.

A U.S. District Court judge in Portland, Ore., ruled that a blogger who wrote about an investment firm that subsequently accused her of defamation must pay the company $2.5 million because she’s a blogger who doesn’t legally qualify as a journalist.
[…]
Despite Oregon’s legal definition of “any medium of communication,” Judge Marco A. Hernandez disagreed with Cox, saying that “although [the] defendant is a self-proclaimed ‘investigative blogger’ and defines herself as ‘media,’ the record fails to show that she is affiliated with any newspaper, magazine, periodical, book, pamphlet, news service, wire service, news or feature syndicate, broadcast station or network, or cable television system. Thus, she is not entitled to the protections of the law in the first instance.”

Stirrings of a third political party? It would be hard to imagine it being worse than the two we have now.

This was not the first time Occupy Wall Street and Tea Party members have met. But it was among the first such meetings to be held with a stated objective of determining whether the two groups might cooperate on certain common issues. Robinson said that he hoped to spark an evolution for both organizations, which thus far have largely confined their public interactions to attacks on one another’s ideologies or grooming habits.

“We need to kiss and make up a little bit,” said Robinson, a Richmond entrepreneur and developer with a baby-smooth pate and a self-described ADHD-truncated attention span. “It might be a small step, but I’m hoping we can make a little bit of history here tonight. When I listen to either side, it becomes very clear … I feel that we have a lot of similarities.”

[…]Similarities far outweighed differences.

He was on the TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice” I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Well, he’s outta here now!

Rod Blagojevich, the ousted Illinois governor whose three-year battle against criminal charges became a national spectacle, was sentenced to 14 years in prison Wednesday, one of the stiffest penalties imposed for corruption in a state with a history of crooked politics.

Blagojevich’s 18 convictions included allegations of trying to leverage his power to appoint someone to President Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat to raise campaign cash or land a high-paying job.

The twice-elected Democrat is now the second former Illinois governor in a row to be sentenced to prison, and the fourth Illinois governor in the last four decades. His Republican predecessor, George Ryan, currently is serving a sentence of 6 1/2 years, also for corruption.

What other politicians do you think should be tried and sent to prison?
