PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — What if you could eat a plate of French fries, loaded with calories, and not absorb the fat because of what you’re drinking. “Yes, I want it,” exclaimed one woman in Market Square.

Well, that’s exactly what PepsiCo is selling in Japan; and, so far, only in Japan. “I definitely need it as I get older,” one man told KDKA money editor Jon Delano.

“I think it’s a great idea, but I’m a little concerned about what they’re going to put in it.” What’s in it is obviously important. It contains an additive called Dextrin, a fat-blocking fiber that is supposed to keep the body from absorbing fat and lower cholesterol levels. That’s a claim that the Food & Drug Administration has not yet bought.

But if it does, as a marketing tool, a Pepsi drink that blocks fat could be a winner. “If you read some of the product claims, there’s one thing I saw that says you’ll be able to eat a piece of chocolate cake and it won’t be absorbed,” says Point Park University business professor Elaine Luther. Prof. Luther, who also once worked for a drug company, says the additive could act like a laxative.

“If you’re not absorbing it, it has to go somewhere,” she adds. And that does not appeal to some. “That’s really disgusting. That’s just really gross,” one woman added. But a Pepsi ad in Japan suggests you can eat both pizza and hamburger – as long as you drink Pepsi Special.

From WIRED – As Belizean police combed the property of expat antivirus pioneer John McAfee Sunday afternoon, McAfee was closer than they could have known. He’d seen them coming, and says he hid — burying himself in the sand with a cardboard box over his head so he could breathe. “It was extraordinarily uncomfortable,” he says, in an exclusive interview with Wired. “But they will kill me if they find me.”

McAfee, 67, is the prime suspect in a murder discovered Sunday morning in Belize. Convinced that he’ll be killed if he’s taken into custody for questioning, the millionaire antivirus pioneer has gone into hiding somewhere in the Central American nation, where he moved in 2008 to retire. Starting at 10:30 this morning, Belize time, he has been calling to tell me his side of the story.

The homicide victim is McAfee’s neighbor, Gregory Faull, a 52-year-old American expatriate, who, like McAfee, lives on Ambergris Caye, an island off the coast of Belize. According to police, Faull was found face up in a pool of blood with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. Authorities found a single Luger brand 9mm expended shell at the scene.

No truth to rumor Governor Brewer forms defense fund for Holly

An Arizona woman, in despair at the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama, ran down her husband with the family car in suburban Phoenix on Saturday because he failed to vote in the election…

I love this phone. Jelly Bean starting tonight. (Expect a few bugs though)

Yeah. This is a good idea. It worked so well before.

From states across the country, Americans have filed petitions on the White House Web site seeking to secede from the union and form new state governments. While most of the petitions come from states that supported Mitt Romney in last week’s election, a few swing states and even the deep blue Northeast are represented.

Petitions have been filed for Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

He’s got a lot more firepower right here.

Christian conservatives, for more than two decades a pivotal force in American politics, are grappling with Election Day results that repudiated their influence and suggested that the cultural tide — especially on gay issues — has shifted against them.

I have a bit of philosophy I’d like to pass in to your fellow developers at Motorola/Google regarding people who root phones. It something that people there should really think through.

Google and Motorola have taken a root hostile position and I think that is a mistake. I think that your companies should do a 180 on that and embrace the rooting community and take advantage of a lot of talent rather than seeing us as if we were criminals from breaking into our own phones.

Who cares about Holder and gun running in Mexico when we might have been supplying arms to al-Qaeda? If true, makes you wonder if any made their way to Iraq or Afghanistan and were used to kill our troops. Ha. What am I saying. That could never happen.

The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of CIA Chief General David Petraeus is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover-up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September. Perhaps overlooked is the CIA’s role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to Syrian opposition groups and information those same insurgents include jihadists openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.

As KleinOnline reported, questions remain about the nature of U.S. support for the revolutions in Egypt and Libya, including reports the U.S.-aided rebels that toppled Muammar Gadhafi’s regime in Libya consisted of al-Qaida and jihad groups. The U.S. provided direct assistance, including weapons and finances, to the Libyan rebels. Similarly, the Obama administration is currently aiding the rebels fighting Assad’s regime in Syria amid widespread reports that al-Qaida jihadists are included in the ranks of the Free Syrian Army. Earlier this month, Obama announced $50 million more in aid to the Syrian rebels.

During the revolution against Gadhafi’s regime, the U.S. admitted to directly arming the rebel groups. At the time, rebel leader Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi admitted in an interview that a significant number of the Libyan rebels were al-Qaida fighters, many of whom had fought U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Is that your nephew’s penis in your wallet or are you glad to see me?

South African police have arrested a 42-year-old man found carrying human genitalia in his wallet, four days after his nephew went missing in the south of the country…

A House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence staffer told The Daily Caller that former CIA Director David Petraeus will not testify before the committee next week. The committee, however, expects to have a CIA witness at its November 15 hearing.

Petraeus was slated to testify about the September 11, 2012 attack that resulted in the murder of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. His testimony was to come before both the House committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee in closed door hearings.

He unexpectedly announced his resignation Friday, citing an extramarital affair.

CBS News’ Mark Knoller reported on Twitter that Petraeus also will not testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee and that acting CIA Director Michael Morrell will testify in his place.

The House and Senate panels could choose to subpoena Petraeus to compel his testimony.

Her biography of Petraeus was titled, “ALL IN!” Hey-yo!

She met Petraeus in 2006 when he spoke at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where she was a graduate student. When she told him about her research interests in counterterrorism and military intelligence, he handed her his card and offered his help. “He really cares about mentoring,” she told the Charlotte Observer.

On Tuesday, Puerto Ricans voted on their preferred relationship with the United States. The largest share of voters elected to become a U.S. state.

In a two-part referendum that caused some confusion, some 54 percent of voters said they were dissatisfied with the relationship. The second question asked whether voters preferred becoming a U.S. state, an independent country, or a freely associated state (a type of independence in close alliance with the United States). Some 61 percent of those who answered voted for statehood on the second question, though more than 460,000 people intentionally voted blank.

Nevertheless, the recent ballot results have sparked real excitement in the community and it’s been reflected best in the 51-state American flags we’ve been seeing floating around on social media.

Adding another state to this country could change a few things, but most visibly it could potentially change the make up of our flag.

Even for someone as masterful at spinning like Rove, this is special, but not surprising.

Mitt Romney lost the election because President Barack Obama engaged in voter suppression, according to Republican political strategist Karl Rove.
[…]
Rove didn’t actually give any examples of ways in which Obama made it harder for people to exercise their constitutional right at the polls — things like voter ID laws, which have been pushed by GOP legislatures around the country. In fact, Obama specifically said in his victory speech that it was unfair that people had to wait in line for hours to vote, which occurred in part because Republicans reduced the time period for early voting.
