The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president—and every future president — the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world. Even Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) raised his concerns about the NDAA detention provisions during last night’s Republican debate. The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself.

The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will be on the Senate floor on Monday. The bill was drafted in secret by Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) and passed in a closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing.

I can put this kid in jail too!

A Miami Gardens transgender woman is facing charges of practicing medicine without a license after police say she injected a patient’s rear with everything but the kitchen sink in an illegal cosmetic surgery procedure.

Oneal Ron Morris, 30, was arrested Friday after an investigation by Miami Gardens Police and the Florida Department of Health.

According to police, the victim saw Morris in May and was injected in her buttocks with a substance consisting of cement, “Fix a Flat,” mineral oil and super glue.

Don’t blame Father Christmas if he doesn’t allow your child to sit on his knee at a school event — teachers may have banned him from coming into contact with youngsters.

A 6-year-old Grant County boy has been accused of first-degree sexual assault after playing “doctor” with two 5-year-old friends. Now, a federal lawsuit has been filed against the prosecutor, who attorneys said is trying to force the boy to admit guilt.
[…]
Attorneys for the parents of the 6-year-old, who is being referred to as “D,” said that [prosecuting DA Lisa] Riniker has gone too far by bringing a felony sex charge against a first-grader for touching a 5-year-old girl inappropriately while playing doctor last fall.
[…]
In justification for the charge, Riniker is quoted in the lawsuit saying “the Legislature could have put an age restriction in the statute … the legislature did no such thing.” The lawsuit also alleges the charges were brought because the 5-year-old is the daughter of a high-ranking official in Grant County.

Another article said the boy, if found guilty, would be put on the sex offender list when he turns 18.

What about all the baby boys touching their mother’s breasts? Clearly, they should be prosecuted. Ignorance of the law (or how to read or talk) is no excuse!

If Fox News viewers want to be informed about current events, they might as well turn off the TV.

A poll released by Fairleigh Dickinson University on Monday found that people who get their news from Fox News know significantly less about news both in the U.S. and the world than people who watch no news at all.

More like 11 minutes 30 seconds…

If all you can front are candidates who make the average voter wonder if they could govern a trailer park, it’s time to rev up the old tactic that worked so well before. Plus threaten violence.

After the commission’s hearing on the request to remove President Obama from the New Hampshire presidential primary ballot, Attorney General Michael Delaney said a member of his staff had to lock himself in an office with the assistant secretary of state out of fear for their safety due to the aggressive behavior of the crowd that included several legislators.

California attorney Orly Taitz, who has challenged the president’s citizenship in many venues, filed the request to remove Obama’s name from the ballot along with a half a dozen Republican House members. The commission unanimously turned down the request.

After the vote, supporters of the request called the commission members traitors and said they had committed treason.

Online footage of the incident, which occurred earlier this month during an afternoon news bulletin on the privately held REN TV channel, is being avidly viewed in both Russia and the United States.

In the footage, Tatyana Limanova, an award-winning senior newsreader at the channel, can be seen briskly reading out an item about how Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has just assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Cooperation organisation.

She is then heard to say that the post “has (previously) been held by Barack Obama” before mechanically and unambiguously raising her left arm and showing the camera her raised middle finger in an offensive gesture that is sometimes known as “flipping the bird.” The scandal comes at a time when US-Russia relations appear to be getting worse after President Obama’s much-heralded attempt to “reset” them. Sources at REN TV said Ms Limanova would not be punished for her slip-up despite the embarrassment it has caused the channel.

A group of demonstrators from Occupy Baltimore shouted down Karl Rove, former chief political adviser to President George W. Bush, as Rove spoke last night in Shriver Hall at Johns Hopkins University.

The first of several disruptions came about 10 minutes into a speech by the political-operative-turned Fox commentator, which seemed to be largely a critique of President Barack Obama.

During the disruption captured on an Occupy Baltimore video, Rove was condemning Obama for the size of the deficit (“By the end of last year it was equal to 62 % of GDP. By today, it’s equal to 70% of GDP”) when a woman’s voice can be heard commencing the call-and-response technique Occupy groups use to amplify hard-to-hear speakers.

The number of religion-related lobbying groups in Washington has grown five-fold in the past 40 years, with their spending reaching almost $400 million annually…
