Terrorists!!!

I want to know what the signs are you aren’t a terrorist so I can exclude the handful of people who, by these documents, don’t ever do these things.

The document (PDF), entitled Terrorism Awareness and Prevention, is presented as a guide for both “residents and workers of New Jersey,” along with employees of federal, state and local agencies, on how to “assist in combating terrorism” by identifying “unusual or suspicious activities and behaviors.”
[…]
The document then lists examples of suspicious behavior indicative of terrorism, which include, “Exaggerated yawning when engaged in conversation,” “glances,” “cold penetrating stare,” “rigid posture,” and “goose bumps”.

Of course, any of these behaviors could be explained by a million other circumstances and the likelihood that they are indications of terrorist activity is virtually zero. However, as we have seen from recent literature put out by the DHS or related law enforcement bodies, the standard for being characterized as a potential terrorist is getting broader and broader all the time.

North Carolina state senate candidate Bivins Hollar is not an unreasonable guy. He just wanted to be able to run for office and have a (now-deleted) video up on YouTube outlining his plans for ethnic cleansing in South Africa. Why is that such a big deal? Hollar, 28, is running as a Democrat from Catawba County, although state party officials have made it clear that they not only do not endorse him, but “condemn any individual who uses his or her candidacy to spread fear and advocate violence regardless of their party affiliation.”

In the video below, Hollar detailed a plan to move “whites” from east to west in South Africa, “(t)hen basically push all the savages out by just shooting them.” He went on to say that black South Africans should be relocated to a desert compound and starved to death. When Charlotte Observer reporter Jim Morrill contacted Hollar to inquire about the ghoulish video, the candidate immediately denied responsibility.

The Observer quotes Hollar as saying, “I didn’t do it…I do not know what you’re talking about.” Then he placed the reporter’s call on hold and the video disappeared from YouTube.

Har! All that’s missing is for his mom to come down the stairs and tell him to clean his room……

Invisible Children filmmaker Jason Russell, a cofounder of the group behind the “Kony 2012” video, “did some irrational things brought on by extreme exhaustion and dehydration,” his wife said Friday night, a day after he was detained over reports of a man masturbating and acting strangely, NBC News reported. Danica Russell, in a family statement obtained by NBC News, suggested sudden attention and criticism of the film about African warlord Joseph Kony, may have led to her husband’s behavior.

Brown said police responded to reports in the Pacific Beach area of a man in his underwear, running in the street and screaming. Some people reported they had seen the man masturbating, Brown told msnbc.com.

The man was detained by officers and then taken to a local medical facility for evaluation and treatment, Brown told msnbc.com.

Russell is one of the founders responsible for the “KONY 2012” video that went viral last week. He is described on the organization’s website as a co-founder and “our grand storyteller and dreamer.” Russell is also described as a Christian and father to two children who wants to have nine more children with his wife he calls his “best friend for over 23 years.” Invisible Children tapped 12 influential policy makers and 20 celebrities with popular Twitter accounts, including Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie, to spread the video.

Congrats to Chris Pirillo for coming up with this one.

Oh, goody. One more step closer to being able to completely rewrite history when the truth is inconvenient since it will only be digital. No eraser crumbs on those bits to give it away.

Whether it was a prized possession paid for in installments and lovingly displayed on the top shelf, a neglected doorstop, or simply non-existent in your household, you undoubtedly grew up familiar with the sight of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. But now the days of the handsome gold-lettered reference books are over.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc. announced Tuesday it will stop publishing print editions of its signature product for the first time in its 244-year history. In an acknowledgment of the shifting media landscape and the increasing reliance on digital references, the company said its current encyclopedia – the 32-volume, 129-pound 2010 edition – will be unavailable once the existing stock runs out. (If you’re interested, it’s yours for $1,395 and there are only 4,000 sets left.) The digital version of the encyclopedia, however, will live on.

Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has canceled an April speaking engagement in Toronto, fearing for his safety, organizers announced Tuesday.

I wonder how many articles will be published this year on how easy voting machines and, in this case, online voting systems, are to crack? We’re starting to rival other countries who barely pretend their elections are fair and voter fraud free.

Researchers at the University of Michigan have reported that it took them only a short time to break through the security functions of a pilot project for online voting in Washington, D.C. “Within 48 hours of the system going live, we had gained near complete control of the election server”, the researchers wrote in a paperPDF that has now been released. “We successfully changed every vote and revealed almost every secret ballot.” The hack was only discovered after about two business days – and most likely only because the intruders left a visible trail on purpose.

Someone was bound to post it. Worth the journey.
